CARNAGE IN THE WEST BANK and COMMUNITY LUNCH 25th MAY

As the effects of the genocide in Gaza are condemned by the world, the Network of Photographers for Palestine bring us new images cataloguing the ongoing destruction and devastation and suffering that is now extended to include the West Bank. This Community lunch (middle east flavoured), on the last Sunday of every month is open from 12 - 4.00 to allow a look at Carnage In The West Bank, and an opportunity to talk together.

As always, all welcome!

Watch the special message above from film maker, Aigerim Seitenova

The Soviet Union conducted 456 nuclear ‘tests’ (detonations) at Semipalatinsk, a huge region of Qazaqstan from 1949 until 1989 with little regard for their effect on the local people or environment. The full impact of radiation exposure was hidden and has only come to light since the test site closed in 1991.Qazakh experts estimate that 1.5 million people were exposed to ionising radiation (fall out) with disproportionate impact on women and children.

Aigirem Seitenova is visiting Scotland to share her short film, "JARA – Radioactive Patriarchy: Women of Qazaqstan" , in the Scottish Parliament Nuclear Disarmament Cross Party Group on the 11th June at (email scndcpg@yahoo.com if you are interested in attending) and also at Words and Actions, EH9 1ST at 6.30 p.m. on the 12th of June (see securescotland.scot/events). An opportunity for learning and discussing about the Russian tests, the impact on the environment, the lasting legacy and how that is very much a women’s issue.

Secure Scotland - open exhibition and events

In “The Age of Insecurity” Astra Taylor points out that the wreckage we are making of the climate and the ecosystems arises from an exclusive concentration on human security without regard for the rest of reality. And, of course, an exclusively human-centred approach to security is chain-sawing the branch on which we precariously perch. (Book is available to buy from WandA)

We are (still) actively seeking submissions (till end of May). Visit, email secretary@securescotland.scot or call Janet 07795594573 or David 07876593016
